This one was completely an accident. I was mixing down Brownstone, and I had Pete Huttlinger’s two rhythm guitar parts isolated, I was checking them for level and field placement and the like, and I added the string part just for context. I gasped suddenly and just sat in my chair, listening… The effect conveyed was astounding, and yet such a departure from the source song. I decided it needed its own place on the album, so I added a different, more melodic, less rhythm-based bass part, put the bar chimes back in, and boom, a whole new song!! It gave me a perfect set of bookends for the CD, and I’m so grateful for Pete Huttlinger’s talents, they popped up in the most unexpected way and help the album really shine!
